Bascule sponsors Team BRIT Racer Andrew Tucker

Bascule Disability Training is proud to announce that we will be a 2021 sponsor for Team BRIT race driver, Andrew Tucker, as he embarks on a journey to be a part of the first ever, all-disabled team to race in the ‘Le Mans 24 Hour’ race.

Managing Director of Bascule, Chris Jay has funded the sponsorship after meeting 31-year-old, driver Andrew Tucker from Llandevaud near Newport. Andrew’s journey with Team BRIT began after he was involved in a road accident in 2013 where, as an innocent victim, he received severe injuries. A vehicle collided with Andrew’s motorcycle when he was stationary at traffic lights resulting in ligament and muscle damage that was beyond surgical repair, meaning Andrew would never be able to walk unaided again.

Andrew tore the ACL in his knee, which required partial reconstruction, he has an inverted right ankle, muscle damage to his lower leg and a large piece of muscle has had to be removed from the back of his calf.  He also has limited movement and deformity in his right shoulder, trapped nerves in his neck, scoliosis and spondylitis in his spine and a deformed right hand and foot.  Alongside the physical damage, Andrew suffers with PTSD, depression and anxiety.

After joining Team BRIT in 2019 Andrew secured podium positions in his first year of racing in the Britcar Championship last year.  Andrew and the rest of Team BRIT now hope to start racing again at the end of March. They also aim to be the first all-disabled team to participate in the Le Mans 24 Hour race.

“The ethos of Team BRIT and the story of Andrew’s journey immediately resonated with me,” said Chris Jay, “so I was delighted to be able to forge a partnership between the team and Bascule. Unlike nearly all other competitive sports, Team BRIT race drivers compete against teams of able-bodied drivers, which is a wonderful example of equal opportunity and overcoming challenges. We are very much looking forward to supporting Andrew during this exciting year.”

Andrew Tucker said; “There couldn’t be a more perfect partner to work with than Chris and the Bascule team.  Everything he works towards and promotes is in line with the ethos of Team BRIT and I hope that by working together we can drive forward awareness of the realities of living with a disability, but also equip businesses, schools and individuals with the knowledge they need to create inclusive cultures.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the support they’re giving me this year and hope to do Chris and the team proud on the track as we smash stereotypes and show people that disability does not have to be a barrier to achieving your dreams.”
